Task three

I finally had the pictures scanned. So here they are… This picture is one of the earliest ones. I cannot remember the very moment of taking it. I suppose I was 10 or 11 months old. I cannot believe I was so small…:D

The trouble with children is that they are not returnable :)

The handsome young man standing next to me here is my little brother, Wojtek. The picture was taken at my grandma’s house. I have a lot of memories connected to this place. The smell of apples, hot milk and fresh mint tea will always remind me holiday at my grandma’s. It was wonderful and unforgettable time… How much I would like to be back to the past… This task made me feel really sentimental. I miss my childhood, mostly the carelessness and unlimited freedom.

Sunday 18 May 2008

I detest Sundays… I hate them since I have to struggle hard with the consciousness that Monday is due to arrive in several hours. Generally, Mondays this year are quite pleasant, only one class, you cannot get tired. Perhaps it is just a matter of the name… Monday? I am sorry to say that I’ve been skiving since morning… I’ve done nothing although so many things should be done. Do you have any tips on how to kill remorse?

Task Two

Our next task regarding our favourite website made me realise that I tend to waste my time while surfing the internet… I can hardly think of anything useful to share.
As a matter of fact, I use pages with teaching materials and resources but none of the websites is really dynamic. Therefore, I wanted to recommend you this one. People who don’t have a TV set at home may find it particularly handy. It offers a range of films, TV shows, cartoons and others. However, you have to be selective since the quality of some films is not always perfect, and moreover, some of the links are dead. Personally, I like watching ‘Still game’; it certainly does not promote violence, nevertheless it may not be suitable for children for its dirty language. ‘Still game’ is a TV series about several elderly Scottish people, who... find it out yourself :) It’s fun to listen to the Scottish accent. I strongly recommend it.

Does practice make perfect?

Teaching practice… this time last year it seemed to be a nightmare - me standing in front of the group of teenage students, or worse, screaming children and not knowing what to say nor do… I will never forget my very first class in high school; I changed the lesson plan several times, I was freaking out I would not manage. My poor flat mates had to listen to my dance and sing - what a disaster my lesson was going to be. But it all turned out great.
When I think about it now, I cannot help myself laughing. It was all unnecessarily. I definitely learnt a lot and gained experience which could hardly be described. Now I can say that I am all set and ready for the challenges ahead…

The absurd of PKP

Some people in the world fight for obeying the human rights law while others commit themselves to fighting for animal liberation. My question is; who is going to fight for the rights of PKP passengers?

May break… A lot of people wait for these several days off to finally slow down the pace of life for a while, be lazy and enjoy being with family. I am sure the majority of students do. However, before you reach your destination, home sweet home, you have to take into account that PKP will, certainly, prepare something outrageous to successfully divert your attention from your holiday…

I was full of optimism the other day; going home after a month in my small cage (i.e. my tiny room in Poznań). Nothing could destroy my good mood, I thought. Apparently I was wrong… I went to Central Station, started queuing to buy a ticket… The queue was long, but I was standing with a smile on my face; hey, I was going home for almost a week. As it turned out, the counter lady decided to take a break just before serving me. OK fair enough. Her job must be tiring… So I tried my luck with some other counter. In vain. Break again, just before me being served. Incredible! I succeeded to buy a ticket at the third counter (wheeew) . I checked the schedule, platform 3… Great. I had the ticket, 30 min to go and an unbelievably heavy bag. I rushed toward my platform. I saw dozens of people there waiting for the train to Ostrów Wielkopolski, which means no free seats whatsoever. Oh well… As we were waiting for the train to arrive we heard the announcement that PKP is sorry (as if...) for changing the platform to 7. The herd suddenly started heading toward the exit. I saw one woman fall down and a few people jump over her… The fight for seats had just begun. But all people managed to get in. So what that 70% had to stand holding their bags above their heads… When the train was due to leave the engine driver not very politely urged people to get out because that wagon was unable to move… Why I was surprised, I don’t know. After two hours I finally got to Jarocin and May holiday started… Hurrah!!! The sad thing is I have no choice and I will have to go back by train…

My first entry

So here it is… My first entry. I have been mentally preparing myself for this moment since I am not a type of a chatterbox and I find sharing my thoughts with others a tough experience. But well… let’s try :)

My first experience with a computer… I remember it very well. It was 13 years ago (how time flies!). It was my friend’s computer, i.e. a huge box with a black and green screen. Impressive… As far as I remember its functions were limited to typing and playing games. But it needed about 20 minutes to load a game, which was recorded on a simple cassette. And then the computer took another 5 to 10 minutes to… get frozen. It left a lot to be desired. Do you remember those times? No? You haven’t lived, then. I got my first computer about 10 years ago, so it had the edge over my friend’s. It was much better, faster and equipped with a printer. It’s hard to imagine life without a computer with unlimited internet access. If my laptop breaks down (touch wood) I will need to take a week off to recover.

Thank you a million! :)
